Which Microsoft Office version should I start learning?
I need to start learning Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.) for better job qualification. Which year do businesses use? I am thinking of learning 2003 first and move up from there after.
Hi,
I live in Australia and a lot of businesses use Excel 2003 and 2007. They are slowly phasing out 2003 though once they work out any kinks in the integration side of things between Excel and other custom software packages.
I'd recommend learning 2007 as this version has adopted the ribbon interface which seems to be the way of the future (as it remains in 2010). I personally hate the ribbon as it seems very illogical whereas 2003's toolbars and menus are very logical.
If you learn and familiarise yourself with 2007 you should be fine for the future and you should still be able to use 2003 as the interface is very logical so you don't need much practice.
The only issue would be some features of 2007+ are not in 2003 so you may not be able to do everything in 2003 you learn in 2007+. Given that you are still learning I don't think you'll come across many of these issues though.
