Attend Science Programs in Canada that Will Open Doors
Science Courses in Toronto are found at a variety of post-secondary institutions and are conducted at different levels. If you have had an interest in science, have enjoyed experimenting in biology or chemistry class in high school or are simply interested to see where taking science programs can take you, perhaps Centennial College in Toronto has the program for you. The school's General Arts and Science – Science program is designed to enhance students' skills in order to attend university by helping them to gain general understanding of college-level science classes.
Within this science program, students participate in a number of courses that are concerned with subjects such as Biology (emphasis is placed on the role of chemistry in daily life and in the development of new technologies and products. Students will be introduced to the classification of matter, chemical nomenclature and qualitative and quantitative relationships involved in chemical reactions) and Chemistry (emphasis is placed on understanding biological mechanisms and processes, rather than on simple memorization). However, students also participate in: Communications, Mathematics, Psychology, Human Genomics and more. Taking eight months to complete, this science program is a great launching pad for a college or university career in science. Students who complete the one-year science program with acceptable academic standing may be eligible to transfer to Centennial's Practical Nursing or Pharmacy Technician programs.
So how do you know if you're the right person for the program? You may find this science undertaking useful if you are interested in the fields of health, engineering, applied sciences or transportation and require a solid foundation for further education. Also, if you know that college-level science is what you want to study, but you do not possess the academic admission credentials needed to enter a program of your choice, then this Centennial College program may be for you. Lastly, if you're unsure whether university is for you or whether a career in the field of science is what you're really passionate about, the General Arts and Science – Science Program will be beneficial to you. Its wide range of courses help you find your niche and discover if this type of learning environment suits you.
To gain entry into General Arts and Science – Science, you must possess at minimum an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent or be 19 years of age or older. You must also have the compulsory English 12C or U, or skills assessment or equivalent. However, possession of minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to program. Please note that students who have not finished high school or completed required science courses for post-secondary programs might be accepted.

what can i do with a general science degree?
what are my career options with a general science degree? maybe something to do with the ocean? or the environment?
sorry i should have said i know i need to get a further qualification but im not sure what field in which to specialise
Well if you're going to do general science, then you need to complement it with something else. Ok, so you want to do something with the environment, then you might want to double major or minor in some type of environmental studies etc.
The general science degree is a lot like the liberal arts degree, it's so open that you can do anything, but employers sometimes want to see that you specialized somewhat in something. This is where the minor or double major comes in. Such as economics, environmental studies....hey, i'd minor in civil engineering. civil engineering is so close to the environment and you can do so much with that.
So if you're interested in working with ocean engineers and environmental engineers with a general science degree, you need to pick your electives VERY CAREFULLY. You would definitely want to talk with your advisor and them know of your plans so they can help you pick your electives or advise you to minor or double major in something. You would also need to try to get ANY type of job or internship that you can within these fields, that would help u out a lot. So that not only do u have a degree, you have related experience within "x" field.
